Solo Travellers is a popular market within the cruise industry. Believe us; we receive calls enquiring about them every day. Independence to see the world and mingle with fellow cruisers is spreading, with more and more people opting to head onboard as a solo traveller. But what does this mean for you when booking?

Cruise lines pass on their prices based on two people sharing, so when you watch our TV show, receive our emails, read our brochures and scan social media – all these prices are based on the standard two people fare. Now, if you’re a solo traveller, this is no good. However, we and the cruise lines cannot promote all deals for the reason that… there is just too many! We’d be go way beyond the realms of an hour TV show for 1 cruise, reeling off the price list. We want to see more ships, more itineraries and more offers!

As long as the cruise lines send over their prices based on two passengers, this is what we will pass on to our Vision Cruise guests. Phoning our team is the best solution to getting a price based on your personal criteria. You may want to avoid the school holidays; you may want a small ship; you may want Mediterranean or Fjords – all this results in different prices and different options for you (0800 655 6641 if you’re wondering!).

But don’t be down solo travellers! We have some advice for you if you don’t know where to start when it comes to booking…

Although all cruise lines will allow a single person to occupy a cabin, you will pay a single supplement fee. As the prices are based on two passengers, they’re missing out on that one space for another traveller. This is something we cannot aim to change, as it’s all decided by the individual cruise line.

Offers are big one to look out for, as certain cruise lines will provide sales that benefit solo travellers incredibly well, with discounts on the single supplement fare. Ones to look out for are revealed below…

River Cruises are one place to start, providing more solo prices than the Ocean Cruises. For example, at the moment, (offers and prices subject to change at any time) Uniworld have waived or reduced the Single Supplement on a generous number of itineraries and departures for guests eager to see the world solo.

Fred. Olsen Cruise Line for the Oceans Cruises is one to keep an eye out for as they offer solo cruiser sales from time to time. With an array of activities onboard geared towards you – you’re sure to either mix with the other guests if you wish, or relax and take some ‘me’ time. (Remember: offers and prices subject to change at any time)

Lastly, some cruise lines, such as Norwegian Cruise Line offer studio cabins for one person. This means the price is less than that of a usual cabin, as it is specifically designed for the solo traveller.

Solo cruisers will find 15 inside studio cabins onboard the brand new Harmony of the Seas, sized and priced for one person. Twelve of these have ocean views.

One point to add here is to book early, as these fares sell out quickly!

With the solo traveller becoming a much more popular idea in the minds of curious cruisers, it’s the hope that cruise lines develop with the changing times and can provide more choice when it comes travelling the world solo. But for now, watch out for offers; search the single cabins and check out River Cruises and get cruising with Vision Cruise!
