The Army Tigers Freefall Parachute Team leapt into action to launch P&O’s new summer 2019 collection in dramatic style – an exciting start for an action-packed line-up of cruises.
The adrenaline-fuelled display took place above one of the fleet’s best-loved family ships, Azura. The Tigers, lead by Captain Ian Wicks, performed an array of breathtaking aerial acrobatics before landing in the drop zone. In a fun finale, Captain Wicks ran over to hand-deliver the new collection to P&O Cruises senior vice president Paul Ludlow.
Captain Wicks says the day was one for the books, with Azura providing a unique backdrop for the jump. ‘After we exited the aircraft and deployed our parachutes, the captain sounded the ship’s horn. It was amazing to hear that under canopy, as well as to see everyone who had gathered on board. It was truly spectacular.’
The Tigers are in active service in The Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment. This September they celebrate their 25th anniversary and we are proud to continue our support of their work.
‘The support we get from P&O Cruises allows us to operate in the manner we do. For example, we got to train in California this year and in doing so, each team member got 65-70 jumps in a two-week period. This enables us to practice our routines and train those new team members who have just been selected for the upcoming season,’ says Captain Wicks. ‘Without P&O Cruises, we would not be able to carry this out to such a high level as we do. We are regarded as the best parachute display team in the country at this time, so we are extremely grateful to P&O Cruises for their support and we thank them.’
