P&O Aurora – A review from one of our Travel Agents here in Vision Cruise

I was recently on board P&O Aurora sailing up to the Arctic…The ship itself is one of the smallest in the P&O fleet, holding just under 2000 passengers at full capacity. Due to the destination we didn’t get to try out the pools, but there seemed to be lots of space on the decks, and plenty of staff to serve passengers drinks (we tried the hot chocolate on the very cold days – this was a small supplement but well worth it when we needed to get warm!).

The food onboard was fantastic. We tried the Beach House on one of the evenings which has a small supplement, but it was something a little different to the food in the main dining rooms. We didn’t book Sindhu on this occasion but we have been in that restaurant on other ships in the P&O fleet, and would recommend it to anyone wanting to try an eclectic mix of cuisine.

This cruise was more about the destination. Our first port was Andalsnes, a fairly small town with a few souvenir shops and not a great deal more! A lot of passengers went on excursions which we had also planned to do, but unfortunately the tour we were due to take had to be cancelled due to the weather (a risk you take on this type of cruise).

We also visited Tromso. Here, we toured the Polar museum where we got some interesting information about local life past & present, and stopped at the Cathedral on route to the cable car which we took up the mountain to get some spectacular views of the city.

We also called at Alta, the port where we took the Northern Lights tour. We were taken to a local campsite around 15 minutes coach journey from the ship. We were very lucky and managed to view the lights for around 2 hours. The following evening those who went on the tour unfortunately didn’t get to experience them. The staff at the campsite were very hospitable and knowledgeable, and were on hand to help should we need it. We were treated to more hot chocolate & homemade cake – very much needed in the minus 22 degree temperatures!

I have been to scenic destinations such as Alaska & the Norwegian Fjords, but the sights on this cruise were out of this world. I would recommend this sailing to anyone – just make sure you have very warm clothing so you can layer up and some comfy walking boots!”
