Cruise & Maritime announce Cricket Legend Themed Cruises

This autumn Cruise & Maritime Voyages are delighted to present two very special Cricketing Legends themed cruises to European Cities and Rivers. Departing from London Tilbury on 28th October 2018, Columbus will sail to the delightful cities of Amsterdam, Hamburg and Antwerp. Magellan will depart Bristol Port on 22nd October 2018, also visiting Antwerp and Amsterdam plus cruising the River Seine and calling at historic Rouen.

Throughout these cruises, enjoy a special ‘cricket theme’ programme headed up by TV presenter Nick Hancock (They Think It’s All Over). Watch big screen cricketing highlights; the Question of Cricket Challenge; ‘an audience with’, and a chance to informally meet some cricket legends in the popular Taverner’s Pub.

HOST – Nick Hancock is a comedian, actor and presenter who is probably best known for hosting the comedy sports quiz ‘They Think It’s All Over’ alongside Gary Lineker and David Gower. He also devised and presented BBC TV’s ‘Room 101’ and has appeared in, and hosted, many other shows over the past 30 years. Nick’s passion for Sport and not being at home means that he is particularly delighted to be on board Columbus representing the Lord’s Taverners charity.

Special guests include:

Devon Malcolm was one of England’s few genuinely fast bowlers of the 1990s. His best figures came against South Africa at the Oval in 1994. He was hit on the helmet whilst batting and when the South African fielders started to chuckle he unleashed one of the most hostile spells of bowling in the history of the game which resulted in figures of 9 for 57 and a convincing win for England.

Mike Gatting OBE joined Middlesex in 1974 and Captained them from 1983-1997 scoring over 50,000 1st Class runs in his career. He played 99 Tests and 92 One Day Internationals for England, captaining 23 Tests including the winning Ashes team in Australia in 1986-7. Mike was President of Lord’s Taverners from 2005-2007 and is currently Chairman of the MCC World Cricket Committee.

David Gower OBE played for England from 1978-1992 during which time he played 117 Test Matches, 32 as captain, scoring 8231 Test runs, including 18 Test Match hundreds. David has written several books including two autobiographies. Now a broadcaster and journalist, his main job is to present and commentate on Sky’s coverage of international cricket. He has written for the Sunday Express, Sunday Telegraph and Sunday Times.

Joel Garner ‘Big Bird’ is one of the tallest bowlers ever to play Test cricket. Garner appeared in 58 Tests between 1977 and 1987 and took 259 wickets at an average of barely above 20, making him one of the most effective bowlers of all time. Joel played for Somerset and was an integral part of their success. He is currently Team Manager of the West Indies cricket team.
