Royal Caribbean Lays Keel For Spectrum Of The Seas

Royal Caribbean’s latest ship, Spectrum of the Seas has taken another step forward with the keel-laying ceremony taking place for the ship on Wednesday 8th November 2017.

The ceremony took place at Neptun Werft shipyard in Rostock, Germany, and saw the first block of the new ship lowered into position. This is often seen as the start of the construction process of a ship, however the actual construction started in August, when the first pieces of steel for the vessel were cut.

The block was lowered into position by a crane, but not before two representatives from Royal Caribbean placed the traditional lucky coin underneath. Once the ship is near completed the coins will be retrieved and presented to the ship’s Captain and crew, they are said to bring luck to the ship during the construction process and then to the Captain and crew when sailing out at sea.

The 4,200 passenger vessel is scheduled to be launched in Spring 2019 and will be the first Quantum Ultra ship that will be specifically designed for guests in China and the Asia region.
