Celebrity Edge has completed a milestone in its construction after the ceremonial keel laying took place in Saint-Nazaire.
The STX France shipyard hosted the ceremony for the new Celebrity Cruises vessel, and was attended by leaders from Celebrity Cruises as well as from the shipyard.
As part of the event a 875-ton block was raised into the air and a lucky coin was placed in the dock before the block was lowered down on top of it. With the foundation now in place, the various building blocks can be joined together to create this sure to be magnificent ship.

Celebrity Edge is set to be one of the most innovative ships and the first of four Edge-class ships from Celebrity. Once it’s completed it will homeport out of Fort Lauderdale and sail both Eastern and Western Caribbean cruises from December 16th 2018, which is set to be its inaugural sailing.
Among its innovations, the 2,900 passenger ship is going to include a moveable deck dubbed the ‘magic carpet,’ a moving venue with comfortable seating, a bar and space for live musical performances. This first-at-sea space opens to several decks and will be one of the most exciting venues at sea.
