Princess Cruises celebrates Australia Day

Princess Cruises is offering guests a variety of onboard experiences and activities to mark Australia Day, which takes place on Saturday 26 January.

The celebrations – which will feature on the four Princess ships currently based Down Under: Majestic Princess, Sun Princess, Sea Princess and Golden Princess – include:

·        An Australia-inspired food menu, featuring the likes of roasted lamb leg, meat pies, Tasmanian salmon skewers, roasted pumpkin and Anzac biscuits
·        Wine tasting, with sample drinks available from vineyards across the country
·        Themed entertainment including a sail-away party with music and decorations from Down Under
·        Popular Australia films on the top-deck ‘Movies Under The Stars’ cinema screen, such as ‘Priscilla, Queen of the Desert’ and Baz Luhrmann’s ‘Australia’

Australia Day marks the first landing in the country by Captain Arthur Phillip at Sydney Cove in 1788.

Last year Princess Cruises saw more UK guests sail on an Australia cruise than ever before, with numbers doubling on 2017. Princess’ four Australia-based vessels, which are sailing from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Fremantle and Adelaide, form the largest deployment to the region in the line’s history.

Australia has proved a focal point for Princess Cruises this year, with Sydney-based Majestic Princess currently featuring in ITV’s ‘The Cruise’. Three episodes of the six-part series have aired to date, which is on Thursdays at 8.30pm.

The next three episodes will see Majestic Princess arrive on the world’s first floating ‘runway’ at sea in Sydney; navigate the waters of New Zealand’s Fiordland National Park; and dock in the capital of New Zealand, Wellington.

Princess also featured in three-part series ‘Cruising with Jane McDonald: Down Under’, on Channel 5, which concluded last week. The crew of Sun Princess hosted Jane as she sailed to the likes of Fremantle, Geraldton and Broome.
