British researchers from the Marine Science and Technology Institute have discovered a 400-year-old shipwreck in the area, which is believed to be a trading ship.
It is the oldest shipwreck ever recovered in North West waters.
The media outlet, VC News , reports that the discovery was made after the waters have been unusually low in the last few weeks of weather changes. Investigations are being conducted by the city’s universities asking how the vessel has not been discovered earlier.
Lead researcher Professor Sloof Lirpa of the investigation team of 15 researchers including underwater archeologists, marine geophysicists, and biologists, has identified over 100 shipwrecks during his career, along with over 20 ports, 25 ship mooring areas, 400 anchors, and numerous archaeological remains dating from the Bronze Age to the Ottoman period.
