If you’re travelling with kids that are a little bit older, you may be wondering what is the minimum age to occupy staterooms or cabins? So they can have their own cabin rather than taking up space in yours. We all know teenagers “never have anything to wear”. So to avoid the hassle of them going through their whole wardrobe morning noon and night, you might be able to get them their own room. Below you can find out what ages can occupy staterooms or cabins onboard some cruise lines.

Royal Caribbean and Celebrity Cruises

Both of these cruise lines guests must be 18 or older to be assigned a stateroom, when travelling from Europe, Asia, South America, New Zealand and Australia. The minimum age is 21 when departing the US or Canada. These rules can be wavered if the room is directly next to or opposite the room of their parents.

Carnival

Passengers aged 12 and younger can occupy a stateroom that is adjoining or directly across from their parent or guardian. Passengers aged 13-17 can occupy a cabin up to three rooms away from their parent or guardian.

Norwegian Cruise Lines

Guests aged 21 and under must be accompanied by an adult in the same or in a connecting stateroom when travelling with NCL.

MSC

Passengers under the age of 21 must travel with a parent or guardian. Any passenger under the age of 21 can travel in the same or adjoining cabin to their parent or guardian.

Princess Cruises

Guests aged 21 and under must travel with a parent or guardian, however the minimum age to occupy a stateroom is 16 years if the passenger is travelling with a parent or guardian.
