Queen Elizabeth To Host QE2 50th Anniversary Celebrations
Tuesday 22nd August 2017, 12:00am
After being launched by HM Queen Elizabeth II the iconic QE2 sailed for just over 39 years, and in that time took 2.5 million passengers over 5.8 million miles.
So to celebrate the life of this floating legend Cunard have dedicated a sailing to celebrating the great anniversary. The voyage will contain five dedicated days showcasing some of her most memorable experiences, including ‘The Triumph of a Great Tradition’ on 9th September and ‘QE2 Day: “I name this ship” on 20th September. The journey will culminate in a special celebratory dinner on 20th September to mark QE2’s launch back in 1967.
Guests will have the opportunity to explore the Mediterranean in the company of famed QE2 historian, Chris Frame, and Maureen Ryan, previous social hostess aboard QE2. Commodore Warwick and Captain McNaught, former QE2 captains, will also be present to share knowledge and stories alongside special events on board to commemorate the fascinating years of ‘the most loved ship in the world’.
Cunard’s Vice President, Angus Struthers, said: “When QE2 came into service in the 1960s, many critics said she wouldn’t last a decade in the age of the jet but her unique design as a dual-purpose ship meant that she was versatile enough to operate both as a transatlantic liner and a cruise ship.
“Given how famous and loved she was, we felt this was a great opportunity to pay tribute to this Cunarder’s remarkable life onboard our newest ship, Queen Elizabeth; herself designed to offer a perfect luxury cruise holiday.”If you would like to be a part of this wonderful celebratory occasion please call our team on: 0800 655 6601
