Hurricane Maria has already caused widespread damage to the Caribbean Island of Dominica, and has strengthened to an ‘extremely dangerous’ category five storm, with top winds swirling at 160mph on Monday night.
Dominica’s Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit wrote on Facebook saying there were reports of ‘widespread devastation’. Storm surges which include destructive waves, flash floods and mudslides are also threatening Martinique, Puerto Rico, and the US & British Virgin Islands, with Puerto Rico preparing itself for what could be a direct hit.
