Celebrity Eclipse & Southampton Part-ways After 8 Years!

Tuesday 17th October 2017, 1:47am

After 8 years of service it’s time to say goodbye. One of the UK’s favourite ships, the Celebrity Eclipse, will mark its final voyage out of Southampton on October 28th.

In 2018 the ship will be splitting it’s time between Dublin and Amsterdam, but first it will be heading over to the Caribbean to finish the end of 2017’s winter season.

All is not lost though, Celebrity have got us covered… the Celebrity Silhouette will try and fill the gap left by the Celebrity Eclipse. The Celebrity Silhouette is a medium sized ship with the ability to carry 2,886 passengers, it will ofr a mixture of both 7 and 14 night cruises, visiting destinations such as the Mediterranean, Norwegian Fjords, Canaries & the Azores, Iceland and also Ireland sailings.

It could be said that the Silhouette is a more finely-tuned version of its older solstice-class sibling, the Eclipse. The Eclipse did introduce a load of ‘Cruising Firsts’ to the UK market, such as the popular top deck Lawn Club, with events such as Jazz concerts and Cheese & Wine tasting.  The Silhouette however debuted in 2011, one year after this Eclipse. This gave Celebrity the chance to learn from its ‘mistakes’ with features such as the less-favourable Corning Glass Show replaced with the Lawn Grill.

Celebrity Cruises’ vice president and managing director, UK, Ireland and Asia Jo Rzymowska commented: “I know many of our guests have great memories of the much-loved Celebrity Eclipse, myself included. 2018 promises to be a very exciting year for our fleet as Celebrity Eclipse will return to Europe and call Dublin home for the first time. We are looking forward to a warm Irish welcome. The arrival of Celebrity Silhouette in Southampton from next summer promises to bring new opportunities and adventures that I know our guests and crew will love.”
