Iona – the ultimate way to see the Norwegian fjords

The Norwegian fjords are a wild wonderland of breathtaking scenery, cultural gems and action-packed adventure. This dramatic destination is on many travellers’ must-visit lists, and for good reason – once you’ve visited the fjords, you’ll never forget them.

Iona begins her inaugural season in this incredible region. With departures throughout the spring and summer of 2020, you’ll have even more opportunities to explore one of the world’s most iconic destinations.

The itineraries have been carefully designed as an introduction to the region, offering something for everyone, all wrapped up in one unforgettable holiday. In each port, a collection of shore excursions will take you to the heart of Norway’s astonishing natural wonders and diverse cultural attractions.

Five Unforgettables in the Fjords

1. Active adventures – Hiking, kayaking, ziplining… The Norwegian fjords will leave you breathless in more ways than one.

2. Cultural encounters – From Vikings to Edvard Munch, the fjords are a cultural playground.  What will you discover first?

3. Effortlessly epic vistas – Explore fjords deep and mountains high for unbelievably epic views you won’t soon forget.

4. Local flavours – Fancy a skillingsbolle?  Craving crayfish? It’s all all on the menu in the fjords. Go on and tuck in..

5. Natural wonders – Discover nature at its best in Norway’s dramatic fjords, crystal-clear lakes and powerful glaciers.

Discover fabulous Norwegian destinations on Iona

Alesund – Everything about Ålesund is pretty. From its location at the entrance of Geirangerfjord to its unique architecture, it’s the kind of place that sticks with you long after you’ve left. Much of the town centre was devastated by fire in 1904 and rebuilt in Art Nouveau style, and today it’s a well-preserved example of the decorative architectural technique.

Bergen – Nestled within seven mountains and seven fjords is beautiful Bergen. It’s a fittingly picturesque setting for Norway’s second-largest city, itself a beguiling combination of natural beauty and cosmopolitan culture.

Geiranger – The Geirangerfjord region is nature at its eye-popping, heart-stopping, take-your-breath-away best. The small idyllic village and cruise port of Geiranger lies at the head of the famous S-shaped Geirangerfjord. It’s surrounded by spectacular UNESCO-listed scenery: the area is recognised as one of outstanding natural beauty, boasting some of Norway’s longest, deepest, narrowest and most dramatic fjords.

Olden – Cameras at the ready: for unforgettable scenery, it’s hard to beat Olden. The picturesque village is snuggled in a lush green river valley at the end of Nordfjord. It’s blessed with a beautiful fjordic coastline, towering mountains and the biggest glacier on mainland Europe, Jostedalsbreen.

Stavanger – originally a Viking stronghold – is a former European Capital of Culture, and it’s not hard to see why. The city is heaven for culture vultures, boasting an impressive mix of museums, galleries and events celebrating Norway’s rich heritage.

Explore Iona’s cabins

Other cabin types – To complete the options of accommodation and offer great choice and value, Iona’s cabin selection of course includes Sea view (Outside) and Inside cabins.
